Pilates - Is it suitable for you?

Although most people can practice Pilates safely and effectively sometimes a class situaltion is not the best option. Pilates classes are aimed at the general public and are not desgned to tackle specific conditions where a special programme may be required. However a matwork class can be very effective in assisting minor back complaints and postural problems. The information below is a general guide but if you are in any doubt please consult your physiotherapist or current health care provider.

pilates for the spinePregnancy

Although it is advisable to continue doing Pilates during and after your pregnancy we advise that you join a Pre / Postnatal Pilates class where the exercises are designed specifically for you. Therefore we do not accept pre / postnatal women on general Pilates courses.

Osteoporosis

Matwork classes are not suitable for individuals suffering from Osteoporosis. We advise that you work on a One to One basis.

Disc Herniation

Individuals suffering from a disc herniation (slipped disc, prolapsed disc, bulging disc) that has occurred within 12 months should not attend a matwork class. If the condition occurred more than 12 months ago then we may accept you on a matwork course on the recommendation of your physiotherapist / health care provider.

Spinal Stenosis, spondylosis and spondylolisthesis

Matwork classes are not suitable for individuals suffering from these conditions. We advise that you work on a One to One basis.

If you are in any doubt as to whether a matwork class is suitable for you please call us on 0131 621 0649 or email us with your enquiry.
